Album 'Lisbon'
It was told that Lisbon was founded by the Greek hero Odysseus and was a Phoenician trading post around 1200 BC. Hit in decay after Roman times and did not blossom again until Muslim rule in the 8th century AC. Was conquered in 1147 by the first king of Portugal, Alfons the First, but only became the Capital after 1255 and has since become the cultural and economic heart of Portugal.
Lisbon, pearl on the Tagus with a relatively pleasant climate due to its location near the sea.
From our hotel, in the centre of the 'Bairro Alto, much is to discover in the compact old core on foot. Also the 'Baixa Pombalina', the lower town with its famous square 'Praça do Comércio' and the old working-class district 'Alfama' are easily accessible. The famous Tramline 28 with its old historic trams meanders through these neighbourhoods. The height differences in these districts are bridged by three cable cars that only go up and down.
Also around Lisbon is not too far away to see much, The 'Torre de Belém' and the Hieronymus’s monastery 'Mosteiro dos Jeronimos' in Belém, Sintra with its royal summer palace and beautiful surroundings and the 'Cabo Roca', the most westerly tip of Europe.
The photos in this album are a first atmospheric drawing. A number will be added in due time.
