Album 'Atacama'
The fascination of travelling is, that you sometimes enter into an unsuspected world. So was the feeling I underwent in the Atacama Desert in the north of Chile of a particular beauty. The endless salt plains of 100 by 200 kilometres, where from the centre you can still see the mountains around you, edged against the cobalt blue air on more than 2400 meters altitude. From the plains you look upon the yet higher flanks of the tableland and the fascinating, high summits of the Andes, often with an altitude over 6000 meters. But most fascinating was the sacred volcano Licancabur, who seems to pursue you continuously on the plains with its unapproachable presence. The Andes, the tableland, the endlessness of the salt plains, the countless colours from the desert. For nights I could hardly sleep. I just came to rest when I had the feeling to have caught the emotions and the beauty in a proper manner as possible. Atacama the imagination of the beauty. The silence silenced. The colours caught in coagulation. My photographs are no more than a moment stolen from eternity.
